"All models are wrong, some are useful." - George Box
My interest and passion is communicating science to improve natural resources in urban areas and working with people. Through research in urban tree biometrics, tree rings, storm and construction damage, and volunteer engagement I have helped to advance scientific understanding, education, and community engagement as critical components to greening our urban landscapes. As an experienced scientist with research experience in quantitative analysis, I also use training data to develop analysis of training efficacy through statistical analysis and data visualization.
In addition to my research, I've worked in education and instructional design, translating complex information from subject matter experts into engaging, learner focused training - from eLearning course to in-person events. As an educational professional I have over a decade of experience developing curricula, teaching, and instructional design in higher education and corporate settings. As a former Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I've taught courses in urban forestry, arboriculture, tree biology, dendrology, and environmental science.
